Scammers regularly impersonate the Department of Home Affairs. Here's how real contact works, what to look out for, and how to verify safely.
Got a call claiming to be Immigration?
The Department of Home Affairs will almost never cold-call you about your visa. Real contact usually comes through your ImmiAccount and the email address on your application.
Phone numbers can be faked (spoofed) — a call showing a real government number can still be a scam. Never verify a caller by the number alone.
- Pressure to pay immediately
- Payment by gift cards, crypto, or bank transfer
- Threats of instant visa cancellation or arrest
- Requests for your passwords or full card details
- “Press 1 for English, press 2 for [language]” robocalls
If you're unsure: hang up. Log in to your ImmiAccount directly (never through a link they send) or contact the Department through the official website.
